THURMAN,
WILSON & BOUTWELL, P.A. represents clients
in many areas of civil litigation, as detailed
in our website. Examples of such civil disputes
would be contract cases, family and domestic
disputes, personal injury cases, wrongful death,
medical malpractice, commercial and business
disputes, and real estate and construction
issues. When individuals
or companies are unable to resolve their
disputes, our attorneys are often called upon to
either file a lawsuit or defend against a
lawsuit. After a lawsuit is filed, it can take
up to one to two years until the case is
resolved by a trial. Much of this time is
consumed by gathering information from the
opposing party. This process is called
discovery, and includes interrogatories,
requests for documents and depositions. Prior to
trial, North Carolina requires that the parties
to the lawsuit attempt to settle the case (for
example, by arbitration or mediation). Some
trials are presided over by a Judge, and with
others there is a right to a trial by jury. Our attorneys are
experienced in civil litigation, having been
through many Court hearings and trials. Our
attorneys have done trials in State Court as
well as Federal Court, resulting in successful
judgments and verdicts. After a trial, there are
many post-trial motions and an appeal process
that may be useful. Our attorneys are
experienced in these areas as well. < Back to Our Practice Areas |
